This course provides learners with guidance on Life-Threatening Bleeding Control, including dealing with the inherent dangers associated with the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings whilst administering First Aid in a high-risk working environment.

Life Threatening Bleeding Control CPD Training – Norwich, Norfolk

Designed for those operating in high-risk environments, this specialist course equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to manage catastrophic and life-threatening bleeding effectively.

Severe bleeding can lead to rapid deterioration and death within minutes if not controlled. This course focuses on immediate intervention techniques, giving learners the confidence to act decisively in critical situations where conventional first aid methods may not be sufficient.

All learners must hold an in date Level 3 Emergency First Aid or Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification. 

Life Threatening Bleeding Control CPD Course Content

Learners will gain an understanding of:

  • The principles of catastrophic haemorrhage control
  • Safe and effective use of tourniquets
  • Application of haemostatic dressings and wound packing techniques
  • Managing the risks associated with advanced bleed control interventions
  • Recognising and treating hypovolaemic shock
  • Scene safety and decision-making in high-risk environments (e.g. construction, industrial, offshore)

Life Threatening Bleeding Control CPD Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

Understand Life-Threatening Bleeding

  • Identify the signs and severity of catastrophic haemorrhage
  • Recognise situations where bleeding is immediately life-threatening
  • Understand the priorities of care in a trauma-related incident

Manage Catastrophic Bleeding

  • Demonstrate how to control severe bleeding using:
    • Direct pressure
    • Haemostatic dressings/agents
    • Tourniquets
  • Apply appropriate techniques safely and effectively in line with current best practice

Use Specialist Equipment Safely

  • Identify when the use of tourniquets and haemostatic agents is appropriate
  • Understand the risks and potential complications associated with their use
  • Demonstrate correct application and monitoring of bleed control equipment

Manage the Casualty Post-Intervention

  • Recognise and manage hypovolaemic shock
  • Monitor and reassess the casualty following bleed control interventions
  • Provide ongoing care until emergency services arrive

Ensure Scene Safety and Effective Response

  • Assess the scene for hazards in a high-risk working environment
  • Apply safe systems of work while delivering first aid
  • Communicate effectively with emergency services and provide clear handover information

Life Threatening Bleeding Control CPD Training Methods

Training is delivered using a combination of:

  • Classroom-based instruction

  • Practical, hands-on training using teaching aids.

There is no formal examination. However, learners will be continuously assessed by the trainer throughout the course. A non-regulated
certificate of achievement will be awarded to those who demonstrate the required level of competence.

  • Valid / in-date first aid certificate. e.g. EFAW and FAW.

  • Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

We can accommodate delegates with additional needs, provided these are declared at the time of booking.
