Basic Life Support (BLS), Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and the Management of Anaphylaxis for Adult, Children and Infants - FAA Level 3 - 4 Hours
The qualification will provide learners with the knowledge and practical competence required to be able to recognise and treat adults, children and infants who have become unresponsive, suffered cardiac arrest or are having a life-threatening allergic reaction (Anaphylaxis). Learners will gain the skills and knowledge to respond quickly, calmly, and confidently and provide life saving treatment.
Description
It is suitable for learners who have a responsibility at work or are involved in voluntary and community activities but teaches valuable skills that will benefit everyone in all aspects of their life.

Assessment and certification
This qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Real-life scenarios will be set to test the learners skills and knowledge.
Syllabus
The course covers a range of topics, including:
• What is first aid?
• Responsibilities
• Action in an emergency
• Primary survey
• Recovery position
• Resuscitation and the safe use of an AED
• Anaphylaxis
Certification
Successful learners will be awarded an Ofqual or Qualifications Scotland Accreditation regulated qualification. This qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further 3 years. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training
Numbers
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.
Age limit
Learners must be at least 14 years old to be awarded the regulated qualification.
Prerequisites
Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation.
